Tactical Buyer (full-time – 40 hours per week)

Working at Hacon Group

At Hacon Group, everything revolves around containers. From sales and rental to modifications and worldwide logistics: we take care of it. No two days are the same, and that is exactly what makes working at Hacon both challenging and interesting.

For our international procurement and logistics operations, we are looking for a Tactical Buyer. Someone who is commercially minded, keeps a clear overview and gets energy from negotiating, international trade and working with suppliers all over the world.

What will you do?

As a Tactical Buyer, you will be responsible for the procurement and inventory management of newbuild shipping containers for Hacon Group.

You will be in daily contact with factories, traders, forwarders and other international partners. You will monitor market developments, compare prices and make sure we purchase containers at the right time, under the right conditions and at the right locations.

You will work closely with our Logistics Coordinator. Although you will each have your own primary responsibilities, your activities will be closely connected. You will actively share knowledge and information, keep each other informed about ongoing agreements and processes, and be able to temporarily take over each other’s responsibilities when needed.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Independently negotiating the purchase of new shipping containers with factories, traders and forwarders.
  • Requesting, analysing and comparing newbuild container prices.
  • Preparing, checking and processing purchase contracts.
  • Negotiating prices, volumes, delivery times, specifications and payment terms.
  • Monitoring international market developments and responding to price fluctuations.
  • Maintaining and expanding relationships with factories, suppliers, traders and other business partners.
  • Monitoring inventory, availability and scheduled deliveries.
  • Preventing overstock and shortages by effectively aligning purchasing and sales.
  • Identifying and exploring new purchasing, sales and rental opportunities worldwide, in consultation with management, sales and customers.
  • Advising management on purchasing decisions, market developments and commercial opportunities.
  • Supporting your logistics colleague with operational and international transport-related matters.
  • Temporarily taking over logistics activities in the absence of your colleague.

What are we looking for?

  • We are looking for someone who can work independently, has strong commercial awareness and can easily switch between different international parties.
  • You are analytical, accurate and decisive. You enjoy negotiating, keep a close eye on market developments and spot opportunities before others do.

In addition:

  • You have experience in tactical or operational procurement, international trade or supply chain management.
  • This position is a good fit for someone with experience as a Tactical Buyer, International Buyer, Procurement Specialist, Sourcing Specialist or Container Buyer.
  • Preferably, you have experience within the logistics chain, for example at a forwarder, freight forwarder, shipping line or logistics service provider.
  • You have an affinity with shipping containers and international cargo flows.
  • You have strong negotiation skills.
  • You are able to analyse prices, contract terms and market information effectively.
  • You have a good command of both Dutch and English, spoken and written.
  • You are willing to travel internationally several times a year to maintain relationships and establish new contacts.
  • You work accurately, keep a clear overview and think in terms of commercial solutions.

What can you expect from us?

At Hacon, you will join a down-to-earth organisation with short communication lines and an informal working environment. We work hard, move fast and help each other whenever needed.

In addition, you can expect:

  • A varied position within an international working environment.
  • A high level of responsibility and plenty of room for your own initiative.
  • Direct contact with international customers and suppliers.
  • A close-knit team with a no-nonsense mentality.
  • Opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • Good employment conditions, including: A competitive salary based on your relevant knowledge and experience. In addition, you will receive 8% holiday allowance, 25 vacation days and a pension scheme for which Hacon pays the full premium.
